He saved me a ton of trouble and time. I found that assembling and squaring up the front and back sections as units, then tying them together with the side bars, made the job much easier. I emailed & then talked with Andy From Rousseau.
Thanks Andy. The 2850 miter saw stand went together without a hitch. The second shelf holds two homemade drawers nicely. You have to read and follow the instructions closely to get it squared up.
One parts bag lost in shipping. It's good to deal with a company that you can actually talk to and resolve any issues you may have. Half the fun of getting something like this is putting it together and personalizing it with your own touches such as drawers, fence, etc.RSK
Even though the problem was caused by the shipper, FedEx in this case, he had the missing parts shipped to me immediately. Filing a claim and getting the lost parts from the shipper (any shipper) would have neen next to impossible and way more of a hassle than I'm willing to go through.Rousseau stands behind their products and they go to great lengths to keep their customers happy and coming back.
It took me about 5 hours to assemble, but one word sums up the experience. I found it very difficult to keep the unit square during all areas of assembly. Well, just like most of the other reviews, the box came opened at both ends. SQUARE. I think it turned out ok, it's far from perfect, but will work for an amateur like myself. Luckily nothing was missing. I knew what to expect having to get the MDF, so that was no big deal.
You do need to hold the dimensions fairly tight(.060).To the reviewer who did it in 3 hours. This is a partial kit. I paid $30 for MDF. you'll see.If your on a tight budget, or just like to build things, this is the way to go, otherwise not so sure.I too was missing a small nut, had to go to ACE to get one.
As other users indicate, need your tape measure out all the time to keep it square.Setting the folding shelf angle brackets, not sure how that could be done with one person, I had my Dad's help (over 50 years of fabrication experience) and it was a pain to ensure setting the brackets for the shelves to be level. Although the instructions hint, clamp the shelf and bracket in place level, drill at the end of the slot to allow further movement as to increase shelf height. only expert. The design of this could have been a bit better(reference the DeWalt planer stand). 3 hours.
Another user got pre-covered material, great idea.Took me about 8 hours to cut the shelves and assemble. Now that I did it once, yea probably could do a little faster. User must supply the shelving material. tip of the hat.
Else need a big table saw. Plus had to go get it etc.Manuf recommonds 3/4 MDF. Best method to cut is a circular saw with a straight edge(no free hand or little portable table saw).
The box arrived with one end heavily taped. I didn't how vague a company can be. I didn't want to be, but I was correct. So, I had to pay extra for some of the hardware.
I have a pretty good table saw and I'm pretty handy -- but not that handy. Some of the numbers are totally missing. Also, some of the directions are beyond the capability of most non-professionals. By trial and error, I'll probably get this miter saw table put together, but it'll be a hard tussle. For example, a certain cut for one of the 24" X 19", 3/4 inch thick, shelves (not supplied) was to be made to the sixteenth of an inch. Before I even opened it, I suspected that some of the hardware would be missing.
For example, the end dimensions of one piece were specified, but the length is nowhere to be found in the directions. Fool me once. Luckily, Home Depot could match and sell me what I needed -- after a 15 mile trip one way into town. A previous review concerning this company's (Rouseeau) assembly directions said that the directions were vague.
I have already tricked mine out with a measuring fence and stop. I could see people who are considering a more expensive stand, buying this one. It was not hard to do, just time consuming. I am considering building a cabinet for the existing shelves.A third supporting rod with an adjustable turn buckle would be nice, so that leveling the wings with the table would be much easier. Ok, Ok, I'm a poor reader. The box was a little torn when the stand arrived, but all the parts were there.
It took about a day. Takes up very little space, and looks and feels pretty classy. It took about a half hour to put it together. Once I had it together, it looked and behaved outstandingly. Good going Rousseau. Just kidding.
I thought the instructions were sufficient, but more pictures would be helpful.
